One of my favorite modern period films. Although the main character never sports a fedora, there are many in the film

Indeed it did! The soundtrack really helped set the exactly the right mood for the film.

Good call. I did notice that the main character didn't wear a fedora but I think the "Newsboy" cap was a better fit for Jim Braddock and his situation in life.

I agree on all points. Great movie, and I prefer newsboy caps myself

BTW, I finally got to see all of Tokyo Joe. I enjoyed it but I think the only thing I didn’t like was the lack of chemistry between Bogey and Florence Marly‘s character.

I gave them some room because it would be awkward, her remarrying and him thinking she was still waiting for him to come back. But we can see it in different contexts, that's okay. I enjoyed the flavor of the movie as much as anything. I began wearing fedoras on my international trips after seeing that, because it seemed to be a type of uniform worn by Americans in that era, who were traveling the world and having adventures. Wearing one on my trips was a kind of nod to the previous generation who accomplished a lot.The Oracle wrote: ↑Thu Nov 22, 2018 4:15 amBTW, I finally got to see all of Tokyo Joe. Oracle, Their pairing did seem a bit awkward to me as well every time I saw the film but Blackthorn makes a good point on that. Now I have to watch it again, darn.

I didn’t really think about it from Blackthorn’s point of view, but that does put it in a different light. Now, all that aside, don’t get me wrong I did like the movie. The question for you guys is, did Joe die from his injuries? I say yes. He had to die or get the girl in the end.
