"I shall sell life dearly to an enemy of my country, but give it freely to rescue those in peril." Any service that has those words in its creed is pretty bad ass.

The scene was captured in a news photograph and was used widely as anti war propaganda. The news failed to report the backstory that the VC "Officer" was dressed in civilian clothing and operating as commander of a wet work team that had just murdered a South Vietnamese police official and his family including wife and children. Under the rules of warfare the VC being found operating in a belligerent manner dressed in civilian clothing and targeting non combatants was subject to exactly what he had received.

A couple things. First:
1865 - The 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. It was ratified by the necessary number of states on December 6, 1865. The amendment abolished slavery in the United States.

1876 - All Native American Indians were ordered to move into reservations.
Just goes to show we didn't really make any improvements in terms of racial relations and how the First Nations people have been treated miserably by the US government. Is it worse than slavery? Not an easy question to ask or answer. Somehow though the civil rights movement seemed to have passed us by.

Also:

Just goes to show that the media hasn't changed in fifty fucking years.

Cousi, to your first point I agree completely. The American Indian has been ignored by the civil rights movement to the great embarrassment of both the movement and the nation.

On your second point I think I have to disagree. The media has changed in the past fifty years. it has gotten far worse. :x
