First Time at the Range!

Post by Herb Roflcopter » Sat Aug 18, 2018 7:36 pm

This happened last October, but I logged in two hours at a gun range!

These are the weapons used:

(I also used a semi-auto AK47, but not to any great effect.)

A buddy took me shooting in Indiana, it was fun but I don't see myself getting one just yet- it's an expensive hobby!

These are some of my results:

The first sheet was my very first attempt; the next one was after the range officer recommended that I think of my wife sitting at the end of the range, mocking me. ;)

I tried to get video, but no one ever seems to be able to shoot video of me competently, so all I have is an animated GIF of me using the revolver:

I endorse range days. Because a bad day turning cash into smoke and noise beats a good day at work. 8-)

Today was the semi-quarterly check to make sure the Thompson still works.

...still working on that rate of fire. I think that's about 400rpm. Not too bad for a running a semi, I guess.

I am shocked - SHOCKED I TELL YOU - think that a gunsmith has such a beautiful gun.

Baz - those are good groups. Not even for a beginner. Clearly you either have natural talent (you bastard) or you listened to whomever was advising you. If you ever find yourself out in Utah, let me know and I'll let you shoot the Lord's Caliber out of the Lord's Gun.

This one happens to have an interesting provenance that I can't upload for legal reasons. You'll have to come visit to find out. ;)

One of the stranger aspects of reenacting is the break from the collecting side of the hobby. Most collectors will spend a grand or better on some new toy and keep it like a museum piece. A reenactor will buy the same gun to crawl through mud and brush and take a stroll through the rain.

I like having pretty things...but with a few minor exceptions all mine are field guns.

Thanks for the compliments! :)

I'll try to find excuses to head out there again one day. I was passing through last year when I was making Arizona my vacation spot, and as I drove through lower Utah all the wonderful memories came back, especially as we made our way through Moab.
